Already?

Yep. The gender comments.

Did anyone else have more of them the second time around?

According to Mr Widget to the right, I am a mere 5 weeks pregnant and already have had my fill of "hoping for a girl?" comments.

Even so far as to be argued with when I nicely explained that we have no preference and would be equally thrilled with either gender.

"No, EVERYONE has a preference, you're lying to yourself if you think you don't."

W.T.F?

Honestly, I am being 100% sincere when I say that I don't care what parts the baking kid has between his/her legs. Would a girl be awesome? Hell yeah! Bows and swing tops and skirties and ribbons. And another boy would be equally as awesome, I like the idea of being able to say "my boys"... although it sounds no cooler than saying "my kids" if they are of both gender.

But some people seem to have this warped idea that perfection in your family unit = 1 male child and 1 female child.

For me, the perfect family is one that is happy, (goddess willing) healthy, and loved.

I guess some people can't understand that a mother would be happy with their child no matter what gender they are. I feel the same way as you, I would be equally thrilled no matter what gender our next baby is.

*Raises hand* Me! EVERYONE said it to me and I kept saying the same thing you did, that all I cared about was a healthy baby. I had a few people say they'd pray for a girl and you can about imagine my response to that. Seriously, I didn't care. If it was a boy, I could reuse all the clothes I had; if it was a girl, something new...but yeah, I honestly didn't care. And since it turned out to be a girl, they can all shut up now!

I agree with you. When we decide to have our next child, I will honestly not have a preference. I love my boys and would be more than happy to have another one. Yet, it would also be great to experience having a daughter as well.

The sex of the baby has nothing to do with how much you'll love him/her. I remember being pregnant with Lex and honestly I didn't care either way as long as the baby was healthy and I'm sure you are feeling the same way.

Wow. Before I ever got pregnant I ~did~ want a girl- that's my experience as boys are very rare in my family. But the second I got pregnant that dissapeared. Am I thrilled I have a girl- absolutely! If we ever have #2 I think I will still be feeling like I do now- exactly as you do. A boy would be awesome- how great to experience both genders. Another girl would be awesome as well- I love having a little sister myself! We also wouldn't find out the gender of the second since we already had that moment with this pregnancy. #2 would be a special gift- and really the wrapping wouldn't matter at all!
(sorry this turned into a comment all about me! It must suck to know you are facing almost 9 full months of this question!)

after twin boys ALL i hear is "bet you want a girl"!
sure, it would be nice to get to raise a girl as well, since #3 will be our last child, but i love my boys & would welcome a 3rd. health is foremost & i cannot believe some one would be so stupid as to assume you're lying when you say all you want is a healthy kid. people can be such idiots! whatever. i for one, hope only that your newest LO is a happy, healthy kiddo (& a good sleeper, lol!!)

I can see that most people would make more comments the second time around, thinking that you are hoping for one boy and one girl. That's what most people see as the perfect family. But I'm with you, I won't care what gender my second kid will be! I really wanted a girl first time, but I love my little boy and would be thrilled to have another one.

Wow, I can't imagine why anyone would not believe that! With my first I really wanted a boy. When I get pregnant again I too won't care about gender. I would be so happy with either!

Congrats again, this baby too will be very lucky!!

I would be perfectly fine with either all 10 boys or all 10 girls (except I wouldn't have -10- kids but anyways!)..gender doesn't matter at all and I've seen people at my dr. office that have actually been disappointed in the gender of their baby..so selfish!

hey, kids are kids...boy or girl...healthy is all that matters. I was so annoyed by that same thing...

Maybe, since I have both, people will lay off next go round? I doubt it...

Well, because THEY would prefer a certain gender for #2, then it MUST mean that YOU would prefer a gender for #2 or else that might mean that something is wrong with them for wanting one or the other.

Ahhh... people and their comments.

I had more gender comments the second time around. We explained with both pregnancies that we would be thrilled with either gender, so long as the baby was healthy. The first time around, most people seemed to understand that. But the second time, I constantly heard "I bet you want a boy!" comments (my first was a girl). When we found out our second was also a girl, I had a couple people tell me, "oh, that's too bad." That infuriated me. Even now, people ask me, "so, are you going to have a third so maybe you'll have a boy this time?" A lot of people do seem to think the perfect family means one boy and one girl.
